  15. <p>     DIED. JULIEN CORNELL, 84, the civil-liberties lawyer who
  16. defended poet Ezra Pound against charges of treason for his
  17. World War II activities; in Goshen, New York. Cornell argued
  18. that Pound--who had broadcast pro-Fascist and anti-Semitic radio
  19. programs from Italy during the war--was insane and unfit to
  20. stand trial. A special federal jury agreed, and the poet was
  21. ordered institutionalized.
